Many
thanks to Viewfinder
Center for Photography who supplied these great intructions:
To
have your photo considered for Picture Switzerland on XpatXchange,
your photos must be cropped and resized to the proper dimensions
of 630 pixels wide by 190 pixels high, at a resolution of 72 pixels
per inch. You can do this easily with most photo editing software,
such as Photoshop Elements, iPhoto, Picasa, etc.
Sample:

Two
important points to remember:
1. Size:
Set the dimensions of your crop tool to 630 x 190 before you crop.
This will fix the proportions of your crop and makes sure that the
image is the right shape.
2.
Resolution: When you save or export your cropped image, be sure
that it is resized to be 630 x 190 at 72 dpi.
If
you are unsure how to do this with your photo editing tools, you
can use the free online imaging tool at www.imgur.com.
It takes less than five minutes, just follow the steps below, or
watch this screen cast.
Step
1. Go to www.imgur.com
and choose your image by clicking browse.
Step 2. Check the
box marked ‘edit’ next to your file’s name then click 'continue.'
Your photo will be uploaded and appear on the screen.
Step 3. Beneath the
image where it says ‘Dimensions’ type in 630 in the left box. Now
press Tab on your keyboard. This automatically resizes your image
to the proper width and keeps the height proportional.
Step 4. Drag your
mouse over the image to enter crop mode.
Step 5. Click on 'Show
Presets' below the Dimensions Crop Size boxes and uncheck ‘constrain
proportions.'
Step 6. W here it
says 'crop size,' type 630 in the left box and 190 in the right
box, then press Tab on your keyboard. (If you make a mistake, clicking
on Reset all will take you back to the original size image.)
Step
7. Click and drag the frame that is over your image
up and down until the framing is something you like. Double check
the Crop Size is still 630 x190 and then click 'Apply Crop.' Next
click 'Continue.'
Step 8. The screen
now shows a preview of your image on the right and a list of url
links on the left. Click on first link, under the words - the Image.
This opens a window with a full size version of your new, cropped
image. Save your image with a right click, “Save As”.
Step
9. Once you have saved your cropped image, send
it to info@REMOVXpatXchange.ch
NB. remove 'REMOVE' from email address
before attempting to send.
Be
sure to include your name and any other information you would
like posted.
